In January 2023, the UK published the list of designated standards for S.I. 2017 No. 1206, the equivalent of the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU.
The list of designated standards corresponds to the list of harmonized standards in terms of their function for the respective legislation. Therefore, we have taken the trouble to compare the two current lists.
The latest list of harmonized standards dates from November 2022, and it has been the practice since Brexit that the publication of the lists of designated standards comes a few weeks after the publication of the lists of harmonized standards, for comparable topics.
The result in the case of radio equipment is very reassuring for everyone. All standards (version-exact) can be found in both lists. Even the transition periods until the expiry of the presumption of conformity of a standard, which are now already foreseeable, have been adopted by the UK with date accuracy.
We found only one difference in the consolidated lists:
- EN 301 908-18 V13.1.1 Mobile radio standard for base stations.
Here, in the list of designated standards, the end of presumption of conformity is given as 29.09.2022. This seems to be a typo. In the EU, the presumption of conformity ends on 29.9.2023. The successor version (V15.1.1) is included in both lists.
The fact that things run a bit more harmoniously with radio than perhaps with some other regulations could be due to the fact that the UK is closely linked to the EU via ETSI.
