New ETSI EMC standards of the EN 301 489 series and further listings in the OJEU on RED

Slight movement in ETSI standardization

It was quiet around the ETSI EMC standards of the EN 301489 series, because, because the situation first with HAS consultants and then with the EU Commission had completely suspended the listing of this series of standards in the OJEU due to their objections to measurement uncertainty and insufficient clarity of the standards. The problems with the Commission were resolved through joint discussions. A representative of the EU Commission, who deals intensively with the issues surrounding the RED, announced that further listings of the ETSI EN 301 489 series could be expected very soon.

Title ETSI EN 301 489-Series:
   ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standard for radio equipment and services;
   Part XX: ...
   Harmonized Standard for ElectroMagnetic Compatibility

The following standards of this series were published from January 01, 2023 to November 18, 2024:

ETSI EN 301 489-3 V2.3.2 (2023-01) Final harmonized Standard
Part 3: Short Range Devices (SRD) operating on frequencies between 9 kHz and 246 GHz

ETSI EN 301 489-17 V3.3.1 (2024-09) Final harmonised Standard
Part 17: Specific conditions for Broadband and Wideband Data Transmission Systems;
   The EMC requirements for 2.4 GHz WLAN, Bluetooth, and similar systems as well as the 5 GHz RLAN/WLAN were previously described in this standard.
   With the new version, the 5.8 GHz RLAN (fixed systems) and 6 GHz WLAN/RLAN technologies have been added.

ETSI EN 301 489-52 V1.3.1 (2024-11) Final harmonized Standard
Part 52: Specific conditions for Cellular Communication User Equipment (UE) radio and ancillary equipment;
   Certainly a standard that should be of interest to many of our readers.

ETSI EN 301 489-28 V2.1.1 (2024-09) Final Draft
Part 28: Specific conditions for wireless digital video links;

ETSI EN 301 489-5 V2.2.8 (2024-09) Draft
Part 5: Specific conditions for Private land Mobile Radio (PMR) and ancillary equipment (speech and non-speech) and Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA);

ETSI standards were and are free of charge. The links to the standards can be found at the end of the article.

As a reminder:
The final versions of these standards are harmonized standards independent of their publication in the OJEU. Publication in the OJEU adds the presumption of conformity, which leads to a reversal of the burden of proof. The authorities must prove that the standard is not sufficient for a compliant product. With outdated listed harmonized standards, this is easy for the authorities.

We will keep you up to date and will be happy to provide you with further details.
