KOREA: RoHS changes planned

For January 1, 2021

In a WTO notification dated August 5, 2020, the Korean Ministry of Environment announced that 23 new products would be included in the scope of the so-called K-RoHS, including dehumidifiers, toasters, electric kettles, electric water heaters, electric frying pans, hair dryers, surveillance cameras, video game consoles (excluding handheld game consoles), wired and wireless routers. 4 substances (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP) are to be added to the list of hazardous substances in order to bring them in line with the European Directive 2015/862/EU.

In addition, military equipment, large industrial fixed installations, large fixed installations and medical equipment will be added to the product groups exempted from restrictions and recycling and take-back obligations. Enforcement of the new provisions is scheduled for 1 January 2021.
