EU: New guide to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC published

Changes to digital documentation

On April 18, 2024, the EU Commission published the new Guide to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC as Edition 2.3 on its website. The Guide replaces Edition 2.2.

A brief comparison

  • At 442 pages, the new guide is slightly shorter than its predecessor of 465 pages from October 2019. However, this is solely due to the formatting.

  • The 418 paragraphs have remained unchanged in terms of number and headings.

  • The majority of the guide is unchanged.

  • Only the digital documentation has been strengthened - in line with the requirements of the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, which is to be applied from January 20, 2027.

The following paragraphs have undergone major changes:

    • §255 The form of instructions
    • §261 Inclusion of the EC Declaration of Conformity in the instructions
    • §384 The Declaration of Incorporation of partly completed machinery
    • §390 Assembly instructions for partly completed machinery

Minor changes can be found in other paragraphs where there is a connection with the documentation.

We will keep you up to date and will be happy to provide you with further information.
